ABOUT
Pat McKenzie

Aireys Inlet, near the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, forms inspiration for much of Pat’s art subject and Plein Air creations.
Pat has won many awards for her paintings in oil, acrylic & watercolour and many paintings now hang in private collections in Australia, the UK, France, Italy, USA, Germany and East Timor. She has painted in France, Santorini, Turkey, Japan , and within Australia the Kimberleys, Kakadu, and Cape York.
Pat finds great joy in teaching. The progress each student makes is very satisfying to her and her patience and eye for beauty make for memorable creations.
“I don’t know where it comes from, this feeling that I just ‘have’ to put brush to canvas? It is such a luxury that I now have the time to pursue my muse.
Twenty years ago I moved to live permanently on our farm in Aireys Inlet, near the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Living in the middle of some 750 acres, surrounded by Australian bush with its kangaroos, wedge tailed eagles, kookaburras and other numerous bird life, cattle and horses, not to mention the occasional snake, and only five minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches Australia has to offer, I do not have to go far for inspiration for my work. “

EXHIBITION
Mission to Seafarers Victoria
20 – 26 October, 2023
At the Mission to Seafarers Victoria’s heritage-listed Mission Building. Address: 717 Flinders St, Docklands, Victoria.
ARTIST RESIDENCY
For the month of October 2023, I was an Artist in Residence, in the Studio Kura, Fukuoka, Japan.
It was a chance for domestic and international artists to experience and draw inspiration from Japan’s rural environment, as well as for Studio Kura’s thriving local community to meet different artists and their works.
I was accompanied by Ev Hales, Colin Peel & Lynn Kennedy, where we each shared a house, had a bedroom each and a studio. At the end of the 4 weeks a successful exhibition of our work was held where we met many people with similar interests in art and enjoyed a traditional Japanese meal together.
ANNUAL ARTS TRAIL
Pat’s artist studio is a highlight of Surf Coast Shire Arts Trail annual two-day event which Pat has participated in since its inception in 2012.
In August each year this is an opportunity to meet with Pat, visit her studio, view an exhibition in-situ, and commission artwork.
All are welcome.
